CANCELLED – Stitch & Resist Workshop (Adelaide)

Due to the current COVID-19 situation in South Australia, it is with great disappointment that we must announce the cancellation of the December Stitch & Resist workshop.

The health and well-being of the community is our main concern so under the current circumstances and in alignment with our COVID-Safe plans and at the direction of SA Health and The History Trust of South Australia we have decided that this is the best course of action.

We will definitely be running further workshops in 2021, (hopefully) in person and online. We will post updates on the Centre of Democracy website, social media channels and through our e-newsletter.

In other news, our submission deadline has been extended to 30 April 2021 so there is still plenty of time to create a piece for the Stitch & Resist exhibition! Don’t forget – we have an extensive range of tools, patterns and other resources on our website to get you started.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this time.

Take care,

Centre of Democracy team

Join the Centre of Democracy to learn how to create political statements using cross stitch and chat about issues that matter to you.

Craftivism is a way to make connections, make our voices heard, make a difference, make change. Engaging with craft activities also improves your wellbeing by reducing anxiety and loneliness, boosting your mood and lowering stress levels.

What is Stitch & Resist?

Stitch & Resist is a participatory craftivism project which explores how creativity can help us stay well, stay connected, and stay engaged with the causes we care about.

What will we do in the workshop?

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of how to create your own textile art about issues that are important to you. We will show you all the tips and techniques of cross-stitching, we will lead discussions around the issues and concerns which impact you.

The Centre of Democracy are collecting images of these hand-stitched works to create a digital gallery that documents the issues and concerns of the time in which we now find ourselves.

Check out the works submitted so far in the Stitch & Resist online gallery.

Want to get inspired before the session?

We have put together a range of tools, patterns and resources on our website which include a library of videos, tutorials, patterns and recommended readings on the subject of craftivism.
