From May to October 1908, Muriel Matters was ‘Organiser in Charge’ of the first ‘Votes for Women’ caravan that toured the south east counties of England.
She was responsible for ensuring the success of the tour. The wooden caravan, decorated with suffragist slogans, was horse-drawn. Two women could live in the van at a time and committed members of the Women’s Freedom League travelled alongside on bicycles.
